Two weeks to go until CHIO Aachen, one of the most prestigious events of the year! We are happy to announce that this year Vaulting World will be on site for you. Shortly we will let you know where and when to meet us exactly, so remember to stay connected with us via social networks.
But first of all we would like to give you some basics for the event:
1) A bit of history
Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein (ALRV) is definitely the place to be from 13th to 22nd of July 2018, this is where the CHIO has been hosted since 1898 starting with horse racing and driving at that time as a German competition. The competition in 1925 was a great success due to the fact that they included more disciplines like jumping in about 19 competitions with 213 horses.
Two years later the event became international with the first “Grand Prix of Aachen”. Another two years later the first Nations Cup was celebrated with 2500 entries from 11 nations.
1921 the FEI was founded and introduced the term “CHIO” (Concours Hippique International Officiel). In 1933 CHIO Aachen was given the title.
After WEG 2006 in Aachen the organisation added vaulting and eventing competitions to the existing jumping, dressage and driving competitions and since then we are happy to see 5 disciplines in a top-class event every year.
In 2015 the FEI European Championships were held at that incredible location that has been growing and developing for years in Aachen. For the first time in the history of equestrian sports 5 disciplines combined their European Championships at one place at the same time. Definitely unique!
With about 350.000 visitors in 10 days, 550 competing horses (950 including shows), 350 competing athletes from 30 nations and so many spectacular side events CHIO Aachen is one of the most popular international events for all disciplines.
As Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum says: “Aachen is Aachen.” – no more words needed!
2) Vaulting at CHIO Aachen
But let’s take a deeper glance into vaulting in Aachen. The vaulting competitions at CHIO Aachen usually take place at the first weekend of the event (from 13th to 15th of July 2018). The Nations Cup on Sunday is the great highlight and tickets are usually sold out months before the event.
Below you can find the list of winners since vaulting has been included in 2007 and the Nations Cup Vaulting in 2008. In 2010 Pas-de-Deux has been added, too. In 2015 there was no CHIO because of the European Championships in Aachen, but Verden hosted the German CVIO.
